Dr Ayan Mahamoud, MBE

Ayan Mahamoud is a seasoned diplomat and regional development expert with extensive experience in international cooperation, policy coordination, and resilience programming across the Horn of Africa. She previously served as Head of Somaliland to the United Kingdom, where she strengthened diplomatic engagement and international partnerships. She currently serves as Regional Coordinator for Programming and Knowledge Management under the IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI), where she leads multi-country programs focused on drought resilience across seven member states. Her work includes facilitating cross-border cooperation, strengthening institutional coordination, and supporting large-scale development programs. As a Board Member of Africa Advancement Forum, she contributes expertise in regional policy, international development, and strategic coordination to support sustainable growth across Africa.
